What’s Included In Resin Bound Kits UK?

Our DIY resin bound driveway kits have everything you need to install a new resin surface of about 1 metre² area. Prior to packaging, all aggregates are pre-washed, dried and inspected to ensure that they are of premium quality. Our resins are UV resistant which is moisture tolerant, doesn’t discolour nor fade on exposure to sunlight and has a longer working time.

We have a plethora of stones which come in a wide variety of colours from which you can make your choice. Therefore, no matter the project and the existing features of your driveway, you will certainly find a perfect one within our resin kits.

Each kit comes in pre-measured quantities and you can choose to have us supply them in tubs which makes it easy to mix the resin and aggregate together. This is done by simply mixing both parts using a drill and paddle attachment when you are ready to begin laying the mixture. It is recommended that you mix just the much needed for the section you are working on to prevent the mixture from drying out before you are able to lay it.

To create an anti-slip surface, you may add crushed glass which will provide more friction and greatly minimize falling especially in wet conditions.

Resin bound kits are economical and you can save more money if you buy in bulk especially for large projects making it cost effective while adding value to your property.

Advantages of DIY Resin Bound Kits

Our kits come with natural and recycled eco-friendly components and come in a wide variety of colours. The finished surface of a resin bound system is aesthetically appealing and more durable than other flooring options. They are also resistant to harsh weather conditions since resins are flexible.

Additionally, the resin surface is impervious to weeds meaning that weeds cannot sprout through and onto the resin surface. One reason for this is that the flexibility of the resin makes them crack resistant which means that the weeds cannot erupt or grow through unlike in concrete and tarmac driveways.

Furthermore, the resin bound surface will need little maintenance. All your driveway will require is sweeping to get rid of any dirt or debris. Occasionally, you can do a power wash on the resin surface to keep it in top condition and get rid of any mark or stains. Resin surfaces however do not really stain like block paving or concrete surfaces.

Therefore, there are many reasons why you should choose our resin bound kits. Apart from containing all you need to install your resin driveway, patio or path, we also supply resin driveway repair kits and resin kits for beginners so you don’t need prior knowledge to install your resin bound surface.

The kit is designed such that you can use the largest bucket to mix the sand, aggregate and resin using a drill and a paddle mixer. The cost of this kit is £60 (VAT inclusive). The size of a DIY Kit is 25kg in total.

How Long Does The Resin Bound Surface Take To Dry?

The amount of time taken for the finished resin bound surface to dry depends on the air temperature and the quantity of catalyst (setting agent) present in the resin.

In cold temperatures such as +5 degrees, the resin bound surface could take between 12-24 hours to fully set and harden before you can use it. However, in warm temperatures of about +10 degrees, the resin can harden in about 6-12 hours.

In hot temperatures of +25, extreme caution should be taken while mixing as the resin can harden in just two hours, which is barely enough time to complete the laying of the drive. In such cases, an inexperienced individual who is only using the resin bound kits for the first time can get caught out. The effect of a fasting drying resin driveway is that it can be covered in streaks and ripples which is not aesthetically pleasing.

We will not hesitate to offer you any assistant should you require any while installing your resin bound surface.

Can You Do A Resin Driveway Yourself?

Yes, of course. If you are a DIY kind of person, an experienced craftsman or a builder looking to upgrade your outdoor space and add a touch of elegance to your driveway, patio or path, then you can undertake the project yourself using DIY resin bound kits.

Your choice of design, material used and location can also have an impact on the cost of installing your block paved driveway.

How Much Does A Resin Driveway Cost?

It is quite difficult to say exactly how much a resin driveway will cost because a lot of factors come into play to determine the cost per square metre of a resin driveway. Each project has its unique considerations and specifications which will affect the resin driveway cost.

Such factors include:

  • Choice of Resin (Resin Bonded Or Resin Bound)
  • Condition Of Existing Driveway
  • Choice Of Resin Bound Aggregate And Design
  • Depth Of The Resin Bound Driveway
  • Size Of The Area
  • Edging Requirements
  • Location Of The Resin Driveway
  • Purpose Of The Driveway
  • Preparation Work Costs
  • Material Costs
  • Labour Costs

Therefore, depending on the above-mentioned factors, the average cost per square metre of a resin driveway is between £40 – £75 m². it may however be higher if there is need for extensive groundworks before the actual resin installation.

How Thick Should A Resin Driveway Be?

For a resin bound system, the thickness should ideally be between 15-18mm. As a rule of thumb, the thickness of a resin driveway should be three times the size of the largest aggregate stone used in the mix. Therefore, for a resin driveway where aggregate stones of 2-5mm were used, the thickness of the drive should be 15mm.

Also, the purpose of the driveway also affects the thickness of the driveway. For a driveway which will be subjected to heavy duty vehicles and above 7.5tonnes, a thickness of 18mm is recommended. An experienced contractor should be able to give you expert advice on what is best for your driveway.

Is A Resin Driveway Cheaper Than Block Paving?

Several factors will have to be considered before we can actually say which of the two is cheaper to install.

The type of resin used for the driveway and the type of material to be used for the block paving go a long way to determine the cost of the project.

For example, a resin bound system is cheaper than the resin bonded system. Similarly, UV stable resins are more expensive than the non-UV stable counterparts.

For a block paving driveway, clay, concrete or natural stone can be used and your choice of material will also affect the cost of the installation.

However, all things being equal, a 40m2 resin driveway in the UK will likely cost around £2,400 whereas a block paved driveway of 40m² will cost between £3,000 to £3,500.

It is also important to note that resin driveways are much more economical in the long run as they require little maintenance especially as you don’t have to deal with weeds because their surfaces are impervious to weeds. Also, for a permeable resin surface, you will need no planning permission as it is SUDS compliant unlike a block paved driveway.

Do Resin Driveways Crack?

In terms of cracking, resin driveways can behave differently depending on the type of resin system used.

A resin bonded system is more likely to crack especially if the base used for the installation cracks or there is earth movement. The resin bonded surface will also crack and since the surface is only about 4-5mm thick, it will most likely begin to lift up and eventually peel away. When this happens, it is necessary to replace the base layer.

For a resin bound system, the driveway will crack when there is an incorrect amount of aggregates used while mixing the resin. But if done correctly, the flexibility of the surface and hardwearing property makes it less susceptible to cracking.
